Studies Research Fellowship BACS travel grants are available for postgraduates giving a paper at the European Association for Chinese Studies bi-annual conference. Travel grants of £200 are now available for a limited number of UK-based postgraduate speakers at the XVIth EACS CONFERENCE (Ljubljana, August 30-September 3, 2006). Applicants are invited to email a copy of their abstract, a brief statement, evidence of acceptance of their paper, and full contact details (institutional affiliation, email and postal address to which travel grant should be sent) to secretary@bacsuk.org.uk. Applications must be received by 19 May 2006. Successful applicants will be informed by 24 May 2006. of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Masters Studentships Contemporary China Studies Fellowship
at the Center for Contemporary China (CfCC), National Tsing
Hua University, Taiwan. Up to six six-month fellowships will
be awarded to graduate students, providing return flight and a
maintenance allowance. Fellows are required to be in residence
for six months between September 2006 to February 2007. Click

Postgraduate studentship
on ‘Global China’ at the University of Manchester In addition to applying for the studentship, applicants will need to apply separately to the University of Manchester for their chosen course. Supervisors (Ph.Ds only) Prof Hong LIU (Manchester) Dr Frank Pieke (Oxford) The student first will take a one year foundational 'MA in China in a Comparative Perspective' where they will study Mandarin Chinese language and area studies courses on China. After the MA, the student will continue studying Mandarin, including intensive language training at a Chinese partner university such as Renmin University of China, as part of a 3 year PhD programme. After the MA, the PhD research will examine how the integration of China into global society over the last twenty-five years has impacted our understanding of contemporary China.
